Autumn thoughts.

Autumn is the springtime of the roots. The heat subsides and humidity allows the roots to flourish. There is growth inward. The countryside surrenders to all shades of green, red and yellow. The ground is beautiful.

It is also part of my current life. I come from the black and white of the knife, from the herds of certainties, from the "with me/against me", from the rage of voracious tongues. How tiring - I say this to my cows with the admiration I have for them. No matter the time of the day, no matter the extreme weather, their placidity is unchanging. Their connection is different.

Yesterday I saw a few vultures gliding and watching from the top of the mountain. Our carrion is also different. I retreat to the thinking corner, to the empty bench, by choice. It rains moderately, without warning.

Take care. 🌳🌿🌲🍃🍂🍁🌹🌱

In ´rooting' mode.

Today I am in ‘rooting’ mode and I remembered a hundred-year-old ficus tree that I photographed in Cádiz on the La Alameda promenade. I found it impressive because of its strength and the power of its roots, a witness to the entire history of the city. Next to it, I am almost imperceptible.

Rooting where

To what

What for

How

Meanwhile, the wind shows no sign of letting up.

Voces del Extremo, Moguer, 2025.

Dear readers,

Since I see that you are still reading my posts, I will continue writing on this blog.

Today I want to share three poems that appeared in the Antologia de Voces del Extremo 2025 (Anthology of Voices from the Extreme 2025), which was held in the town of Moguer last July.

I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed writing them.

Poema 1, sín título.

Trascender el límite:

limar la espina

ahuecar la posibilidad

desertar del no

deponer la terquedad del desamparo

de la desesperanza impuesta

erizar las manos

como acto de desobediencia

escoger bosque

como acto político

respirar ave

pensar grieta, decir raíz

gestar nuevas maneras de vincularse

entrenar la fe compartida

mantener el faro encendido

aunque no haya barcos a la vista

pensar grieta, decir raíz

decir grieta, pensar raíz

hasta que la luna nombre al día

(Poema inédito)

Moguer, 2025.

Poema 2

Están matando los sueños

migajas de la tierra prometida:

el gatillo del miedo

repta el azar entre

miles de gusanos ciegos

carcoma en los sueños

LA INTEMPERIE

Huerga & Fierro Editores, 2023

Poema 3, sin título

Y si

no hubiera otra manera

de escribir pájaro

que con hebras de viento.

Y si

el poema solo germinara

en el aletear del ojo.

Y si

solo el ojo

y el pájaro

y si tal vez

no hicieran falta

escamas, ni fauces, ni plumas.

Acaso el paraíso que nombráis

sea solo eso:

aprender el pájaro

en ojo ajeno.

(Poema inédito)

Moguer, 2025.

peace and serenity wherever you are

If only / Si al menos

The absence of bodies transforms spaces, making them hollow, unrecognisable, almost hostile. I don't know if it is possible to inhabit the void or if we should allow it the right to cease to be. There is attachment even in absence as if impermanence were not the air we breathe.

Time stopped for a while in July 2019 according to the calendar in her kitchen. I found the house strewn with little notes, so fond of reminders she was. After that date she stopped tearing out the pages and, probably, stopped writing. I discovered my Christmas Eve poem of 2012 stuck on the tiles, under the passing of a paper time. And the text I wrote her for her 90th birthday, framed, next to a photo of the day I got married, with all my siblings. We look like the Bee Gees band. I had forgotten that, once upon a time, our bodies shared the same height.

Once I discovered in her little owl bag another meticulously folded poem that she would just pull out and tuck in.  Another reminder. Another way of letting herself be accompanied.

If poetry were that, it would already have a meaning.

Una fotografía. A photography.

LA INTEMPERIE, first poetry reading. July 19th, 2023.

Our distance is just a thread of light.

"This is one of the verses of this collection of poems called LA INTEMPERIE, which was born a little more than a month ago by the hand of Editorial Huerga y Fierro.

Under this outdoors -which is nothing more than life itself- we recognize ourselves as interwoven beings. We are not separated by age, origin, health or illness. Each glance is the reflection of the other.

Some of the poems that nestle in this collection of poems are dedicated to this wonderful woman who is my mother and there are also You, so I wanted the first reading to be here in this place where dignity has become flesh."

These were the words of the presentation at the residence where my mother currently lives.

She is 99 and a half years old right now.

This is the video of a poem I wrote for her and that I was lucky enough to recite :

Poetry of silence

Writing is like imagining silence.

Then comes the other.
The other one.

And the perception that the other, with his gaze, will make that silence unique.

I am in that listening.

The photos were taken by my friend Andrea Melanctha.
Meanwhile, I knotted the lavender.

No sé mañana pero hoy, a poem by Lourdes Vicente

No sé mañana pero hoy
tengo la mirada foco
las manos cuenco
y la intención clara.

No sé mañana pero hoy
la esperanza se empeña
en calzarme los pies y
confiar en la vida se me hace
brújula.

No sé mañana pero hoy
mi vida no soporta precio
alguno. Donde me siento
hago nido.

No sé mañana pero hoy
soy nudo de amarre
malla y tribu
cabaña.

No sé mañana pero hoy
sopla un faro encendido.
Y un camino abre raíz y alas.
